"Church Politics.
If you just read the title of our new sermon series, you probably had some level of anxiety spike! Politics. It's the controversial third wheel. A massive source of strife in our divided culture. Statistically speaking, more than at any other time in the past century, Americans are divided along political lines. How can we as Christians live as unique lights of gospel hope and love in the midst of a divided culture?
In this series, we will be diving down deep to the foundation of the word politics. We'll define it as "The art of getting things done together." If you're looking for a "how to vote" guide, or a list of "THE Christian positions" on every political issue, you're not going to find it here. Instead, what we hope you'll find is a tool chest of biblical principles and practices that will help you apply the gospel to "getting things done together." We will talk about how to identify truth and practice biblical discernment, the importance of both humility and boldness, the importance of admitting we can't do it all ourselves, and many (well, five) other topics, principles, and practices.
We hope that these lessons will be applicable to you when you think about engaging with national and state politics as a Christian, yes! But just as much so, if not more, we think these principles will help you get things done with other people. Whether that's within your family, your workplace, your HOA, your local school board, here at Hope, or wherever else you are trying to get things done with other people. We hope you'll join us, for some Church Politics.
